Join us for an insightful session with Dr. Elsie Scott as she presents her research. Dr. Scott will share key findings from her extensive focus groups and surveys of Southern University Alumni and Donors, shedding light on the historical and contemporary dynamics of African American philanthropy in higher education.
Dr. Scott’s presentation will also address the factors influencing current giving trends, highlighting both the increased generosity following recent social justice movements and the barriers that hinder alumni contributions. By examining the motivations and deterrents for giving among different demographics, her research provides valuable insights for enhancing fundraising strategies. This session is a unique opportunity to understand the complexities of African American philanthropy and its vital role in sustaining and advancing HBCUs.
Elsie L. Scott, Ph.D. is the founding director of the Ronald W. Walters Leadership and Public Policy Center at Howard University. She has served as president and CEO of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, executive director of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, in local government and college teaching positions. She has a Ph.D. from Atlanta University in political science.
